The Esplanade is a new area in Geraldton located at the southern end of the Foreshore which has great facilities and wonderful views. There are walking/cycling paths to the viewing platforms where seals (sea lions) bask in the sun on the rocks below.
The viewing platform at the far end of The Esplanade has 360 degree view of the city centre, the port, Champion Bay and Moresby Ranges. The area has barbecue facilities, shaded seating, landscaped walkways, viewing areas and plenty of car parking. The railway line for the port authority is located alongside the Esplanade but this is well fenced.
There are a number of interpretive signs along the way telling the story of the port, the old Esplanade Jetty, Champion Bay and the sea lions that visit Geraldton at certain times of the year (look carefully as they seem to blend into the rocks). This is a lovely spot and well worth the effort to walk or ride around this lovely park.
