Geraldton

Geraldton is a city on the coast of Western Australia about 420 kilometres north of Perth. This is quite a commercial centre and there are many accommodation options and plenty of things to see and do. Here are some of the things we enjoyed while holidaying in Geraldton:

• visit to the HMAS Sydney II Memorial on Mt Scott - amazing sculptured dome made up of 645 seagulls each representing a man lost when the ship sank
• Mt Scott has 360 degree views of the city
• Old Gaol near the Visitor Information Centre - some of the cells in the gaol operate as arts and craft outlets. It also houses a unique gemstone display.
• Bill Sewell Complex (Visitor Information Centre) - which was formerly the Victoria District Hospital and later Geraldton Prison 
• Geraldton Foreshore - this looked relatively new and has some great cafes, children's playgrounds, a waterpark, walking/bike riding paths, emu eggs sculptures with Aboriginal artwork, interesting rubik's cube designed public toilets, swimming beaches, grassed parkland for barbeques and picnics
• The Esplanade and saw large sea lions lounging on the rocks below the viewing platforms
• Point Moore lighthouse - iconic with red and white stripes
• watching kite surfers at Greys Beach
• Stingers fish and chip shop on Marine Terrace - old and unassuming but great food at a great price 
• visited the West Australian Museum at Batavia Marina - information about several of the Dutch Ships wrecked off the West Australian Coast - story of HMAS Sydney sunk off the coast during WWII - no survivors. Information about the local flora and fauna.

We did not get to do all the things recommended by the Visitor Information Centre and I look forward to heading back one day.
