We stayed a couple of nights in Busselton while visiting the south western corner of Western Australia. We chose the Esplanade Hotel which is a short walk from the Busselton Jetty and the centre of town. This is a lovely old hotel with great food, comfortable self-contained accommodation and plenty of parking.
Busselton Jetty is the longest timber jetty in the southern hemisphere and a must see when visiting the area. You can walk the 1.8-kilometres or take a train ride along this historic structure to visit the Underwater Observatory. Unfortunately the Observatory was closed during our stay but we still saw some interesting sites while walking the length of Busselton Jetty - seagulls nesting the the old timer and a beautiful fluffy chick (see photos). Busselton has a number of beachfront resorts that look over the beautiful Geographe Bay. Fishing, water skiing, snorkelling, scuba diving, windsurfing, kayaking or sailing are very popular in the calm waters of this large bay. Busselton is about a three hours drive south of Perth and a short distance to the Margaret River wine region - a great base to explore this area. The Busselton Museum, Old Courthouse or the beautiful St Mary's Church are interesting to visit and find out about the history of this region - Busselton was established as one of Western Australia's first settlements. The streets are lovely and wide and it is easy to walk around the centre of town - we even found a nice old pub to enjoy a drink before heading back to the Esplanade Hotel for dinner.
Since 1898, the Esplanade Hotel has been one of the mainstays of Western Australia's beautiful south-west. We’re a stone’s throw from pristine beaches and the world famous Busselton Jetty and only 2 minutes from the heart of town. With delicious food and comfortable accommodation, staying at the Esplanade Hotel is a fantastic way to see WA.
