When we visited Geraldton in 2015 the Geraldton Visitor Information Centre was housed in part of the Bill Sewell Complex, near the centre of town. I understand it is now located at 246 Marine Terrace.
We always start our visit to a new place with a trip to the Visitor Information Centre to gather maps and information about the area. This centre is open seven days a week closing at 1 pm on Saturday and Sunday (closed Christmas Day and Good Friday) and beautifully presented.
They not only have a comprehensive range of maps and tourist information but provide a free accommodation and tour booking service. The Visitor Information Centre had a wonderful display of souvenirs, gifts, sun hats, and jewelry - a great place for a bit of Christmas Shopping. You can purchase a National Park Pass at this VIC and there is a large car parking area, big enough for caravans and buses. Public toilets are available with disabled facilities.
We joined a tour of the Bill Sewell Complex - beautiful stone buildings that were once the Victoria District Hospital, and later the Geraldton Prison. This tour included a look through the old gaol which is now used as a craft centre. It houses a gemstone display as well as locally made arts and crafts. I had to laugh at the display out the front of this building advertising crafts in certain cells - eg used clothes see cell 7.
