During our visit to Port Hedland in Western Australia we headed out to an area known as Spoil Bank to watch some kite surfers in action. It was a very windy day and they were taking advantage of the conditions.
The spoil bank is composed entirely of dredged shelly sand from the harbour channel. Drive along Sutherland Drive past the Port Hedland Yacht Club and then onto Spoil Bank Recreation Reserve. MacPherson Drive provides a circuit of the area and access to the long beaches on either side of the bank. This is sandy track so take care not to get bogged.
