Kissing Point is located at the end of The Strand in Townsville and was used as a fortification area with a bunker system, gun placements and canons built to protect the harbour. It sits above the Jezzine Barracks and definitely worth a visit when in Townsville. Note: there are a number of stairs to the viewing area where we had to carry our pushbikes.
This area is now open to the public with boardwalks, artworks, and traditional plantings, with interpretative signs commemorating the military and Aboriginal heritage of Kissing Point. The walkways along the coast connects Rowes Bay and The Strand with observation decks up at Kissing Point Fort.
Highly recommended.
