While staying in Longreach, Queensland we decided to visit the QANTAS Founders Museum and join the Jet Tour, followed by the Wing Walk. While on the Jet Tour we were shown through the Boeing 747 (inside and out) and told about the operation of this aircraft. We were then told about the history of the Boeing 707 and its association with QANTAS. The Boeing 747 housed at the Museum was converted to a luxury jet for a Saudi Prince - leather interior with a beautiful timber finish on the cabinets, crystal glassware etc. You will also get to see a Catalina Flying Boat up close and hear about its operation during WWII.
After looking at these aircraft we had the opportunity to have our photos taken standing inside one of the jet engines - they are huge.
After the Jet Tour was completed we then stayed on to participate in the Wing Walk - this included seeing and sitting inside the cargo hold as well as being able to sit in the cockpit of the Boeing 747. Then it was time for the wing walk - safety harnesses are attached before you head out onto the wing. It is absolutely amazing how much flex, and movement these wings have. This is a unique experience which we found very interesting - I am glad we decided to spend the extra money.
