While staying at the Emerald Cabin and Caravan Village on Opal Street we took an early morning walk to the Visitor Information Centre - facing the Capricorn Highway on the edge of Morton Park. It is relatively easy to find this VIC - just look for the huge Van Gough Painting of Sunflowers. Sunflowers are a very important crop to the area
This Central Highlands Visitor Information Centre is open seven days a week and great for information on the area, maps, directions and accommodation ideas. The shop has a range of local produce and home made items, and directly behind the centre is Federation Walk through historical buildings. There are mozaics along the way depicting the history of this area of central Queensland.
The Visitor Information Centre is also a great place to find our about local road conditions - it had been raining heavily over the previous week and we wanted to find our which roads may be closed.
There are shaded picnic tables near the VIC, public toilets and plenty of space to park while towing a caravan.
