Alongside the Bontanic Gardens in Emerald is a rest area under the bridge that allows caravans and motor homes to stay overnight (maximum stay 20 hours). We have always been amazed at how many people use this area which sits alongside the main highway through town and near the railway line. I would imagine it could get very noisy but there are always people staying here.
This is a sealed rest area at the eastern entrance to town and suitable for all sized vehicles. Three are toilets and picnic tables nearby in the Botanic Gardens and water is available (may need to boil before use). Dogs are allowed at this free camp site and it is walking distance to cafes, restaurants, supermarkets and the Visitor Information Centre.
The area gets very muddy after rain and the council often closes the campground if the weather is bad. I would recommend that you take a walk through the Emerald Bontanic Gardens while staying at the rest area.
