Sawn Rocks in Mount Kaputar National Park have been created in a very unusual way and need to be seen to be believed.
Head out of town along Killarney Gap Road (Bingara Road) and turn off to Sawn Rock about 35 kilometres from town before undertaking a short walk along the sealed path to this unusual rock formation. There is a great parking area with room for a couple of buses or cars towing caravans. Toilet and picnic tables are provided for visitors.
The path to the rock face is sealed and then you walk onto a raised walkway above the gully to stop damage to the plants. A viewing platform at the end of the track allows visitors to get pictures of the giant rock wall of organ pipes. These have been formed by the lava cooling slowing and the crystals aligning to form long columns - basalt rock creating five sided shapes running down the cliff face.
