The Larry Lobster Festival is held at the Port Denison foreshore each year and incorporates the "Blessing of The Fleet" before the start of the crayfishing season. Dongara/Port Denison are sister towns located on the West Australian Coast about four hours drive north of Perth - a well known lobster (crayfishing) and exporting location.
We were lucky enough to be staying at Port Denison in the Dongara Tourist Park during November and were within walking distance of this wonderful community event. There were a huge number of stalls, entertainment for adults and children, lobster vessel tours, factory tours, market stalls selling a range of locally made products and a fireworks display on the Saturday night.
The Larry Lobster Festival commenced in 1999 and at that time was known as the Larry the Lobster Festival - is has grown every year since and is now a major event on the Dongara- Port Denison calendar. The Blessing of The Fleet has been an annual event since the 1970's.
It was a beautiful sunny in day for the festival and we made a number of purchases for Christmas - very interesting gifts like clocks made out of little golden books, wooden salt and pepper shakers that look like beer bottles and homemade jewelry. A fun day in a great location.
