Port Denison and the sister town of Dongara are located on the West Australian coast about four hours drive north of Perth. This is pretty area with a number of historical building, large Moreton Bay Fig trees and well known for fishing and water sports.
Dongara/Port Denison has the annual Blessing of The Fleet and Larry Lobster Festival every November to celebrate the start of the Crayfishing Season. We were lucky enough to be visiting the area during the festival - a great weekend with markets, lots of entertainment, lobster vessel tours and fireworks on the Saturday night.
This is a well known kitesurfing area and attracts people from all over the state - I am not surprised as it was extremely windy during our visit. Visitors also spend time here during wildflower season which runs between August and October. We were at Port Denison during November and were still able to find loads of beautiful flowers - you just have to look a bit harder.
One thing I would recommend if you like a great pie or sausage roll is to head to Dongara Bakery for breakfast, lunch or morning tea - yum.
