Encounter Coast Discovery Centre has displays on the history of the Encounter Coast and is housed in various historical buildings on Flinders Parade, Victor Harbor - just across the way from the Visitor Information Centre. The discovery centre shows the the struggles of early settlers, the whaling history of Victor Harbor and dreamtime stories from local Aboriginals.
There are audio and visual displays plus a large range of historic photographs from the National Trust's collection. At the Encounter Coast Discovery Centre you can learn about the historic Australian meeting between English and French explorers Matthew Flinders and Nicolas Baudin in 1802. You will also see a collection of unusual bottles found at the bottom of the Bay. You can walk through to the Old Customs and Stationmaster’s Residence, which was built in 1866 and furnished in the style of the era. The Encounter Discovery Centre is open daily from 1 pm - 4 pm (closed Christmas Day and Good Friday).
