The Bluff is a rocky outcrop of granite on the edge of Encounter Bay, south west of Victor Harbor in South Australia. There are several walking trails to the top which can be quite challenging but worth the effort with excellent views over Victor Harbor, Encounter Bay, Granite Island and the Southern Ocean.
It can be very windy in this part of the country and we saw some model gliders being controlled from the edge of the hill – fascinating how they twisted and rose in the strong breeze.
At the base of the steep hillside there is a small parking area and a spot where there is excellent fishing from a jetty. Along the foreshore of Encounter Bay there are warning signs about heading out in an unpowered watercraft when there is an offshore wind blowing – maybe they are afraid that you will be taken to the Antarctic.
