The Pondalowie Surf Break car park is located about 20 kilometres from Marion Bay on the Yorke Peninsula. Surfing is a popular activity at Innes National Park. The Yorkes Classic, one of South Australia's most prestigious surfing events, is held in the park every October long weekend in the best and biggest waves available across the 'Bottom-End' of Southern Yorke Peninsula. This has become a major sporting attraction for both surfers and spectators alike.
Pondalowie Bay offers long and consistent waves but the surf was very low on the day we visited - obviously the wrong time of year.
Pondalowie Surf Break has a very large car parking area which indicates that this is a popular spot. There is a great boardwalk leading form the car park over the sand dunes to the water (quite a walk but easy) and the beach is accessed from a long viewing platform. Steps lead to the beach in three locations from the viewing platform with lots of places to sit and enjoy the views.
Casuarina Campground is near the Pondalowie surf break. The sites vary in size and the toilet block seems to be quite new with a water tank attached to the side of the building. This campground is surrounded by dense low shrub with plenty of wildlife. Fees apply for camping and/or entry to the Innes National Park and they need to be booked and paid online (parks.sa.gov.au/innes) - this can be done on computers at the front entrance to the park. I would think that you should check on availability if you are planning a visit during school holidays as this area is very popular. These are unpowered sites and barbeques are available at various locations.
