We spent a day exploring the beautiful Innes National Park at the bottom of the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. One of our stops during the day was at West Cape where a walking track from the carpark leads up to a viewing platform giving a 360 degree view of this area. Leading from the viewing platform is a 1 kilometre loop walk past fragile coastal vegetation to the lighthouse at the head of the cape where you’ll have amazing views of this high-energy coastline.
The track goes around the lighthouse and make sure you follow the signs carefully as some of the cliffs are very steep and it was extremely windy during our visit. The lighthouse was made of Stainless Steel and is reported to be the highest lighthouse in Australia.
Located near the car park are eco toilets which are clean with a water tank for washing hands – unfortunately the tap was covered with bees and I was not game to disturb them (luckily we carry water and disinfectant wipes). There is a covered picnic table about 50 metres from the car parking area which looks out over the ocean and national park – beautiful scenery. Steps leading down to a lovely beach which I am sure is popular during warmer weather.
