West Cape is located in Innes National Park at the base of the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. Innes National Park is about 300 kilometres west of Adelaide and open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - fees apply for vehicle entry and camping.
West Cape is a great spot to enjoy a short bush walk along the top of the cliffs, past the West Cape Lighthouse with spectacular coastal scenery. West Cape Day Visitor area is well signposted from the main road and has public eco toilets with a water tank provided for washing hands. There is a covered picnic table about 50 metres from the car parking area which looks out over the ocean and national park – beautiful scenery. A great spot to stop for lunch or morning tea - steps lead down to a beach for a quick swim if visiting on a warm day.
A walking track from the car park leads up to a viewing platform that gives a 360 degree view of this area. The one kilometre loop walk heads out from the viewing platform which will take you around the lighthouse. Some of these cliffs are very steep and quite fragile so I made sure I stayed on the track. The lighthouse was made of Stainless Steel and is reported to be the highest lighthouse in Australia.
