Wallaroo is a port town on the western side of Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, 160 kilometres north-northwest of Adelaide. It is one of the three Copper Triangle towns famed for their historic shared copper mining industry, and known together as "Little Cornwall", the other two being Kadina (about 8 kilometres to the east) and Moonta (about 18 kilometres south). Wallaroo is a small town on the west coast of the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia with a population of about 3000 people. It is located about 157 kilometres from Adelaide with a deep sea port and home to the Spencer Gulf Prawn Fleet. Large silos sit on foreshore to the harbour as this is a shipping terminal for sending grain overseas. Apparently the port was once the second busiest in South Australia due to mining and the smelter – Copper mostly. You can check out the ruins of the smelter and read about how big this industry was from about 1865 to 1920s - interpretive signs are dotted along the path. The Wallaroo Heritage and Nautical Museum can be found near the waterfront.
There are two caravan parks in town
Wallaroo is a very popular holiday destination which has great fishing and diving locations - especially near the town jetty. We found this a lovely place to explore on our push bikes with friendly locals, and plenty to see.
