The Boom and Bust Loop Walk is a short walk from Wilpena Pound Resort - about two kilometres return. This walk takes you through bush land near the resort where you can see how plants adapt to survive water shortages. A range of seasonal wildflowers can be seen along this trail which can be quite plentiful at certain times of the year. We have managed to find wonderful flowers everywhere during our travels - some tiny and growing through cracks in the rock.
We headed out to enjoy the Boom or Bust walk shortly after our arrival at the Wilpena Pound Resort Campground - we wanted to return before the sun set. We walked past a gully where a large number of gum trees had been washed over during a particularly heavy rainfall season. A fire had damaged the root systems and then a large flood knocked them over – even after this devastation the mangle of trees was home to a number of animals. We saw a family of emus, kangaroo and joey, cockatoos and ring neck parrots during our walk.
Make sure you pick up a map from the Visitor Centre before setting out.
