On our first afternoon staying at Takarakka Bush Resort at the edge of Carnarvan National Park we headed along the Gorge Road to explore Mickey Creek and Warrumbah Bluff (along Warrumbah Creek). Two short walks before taking the longer walks from Carnarvon Gorge Visitor Centre the next day.
The track starts from the main road of the National Park, not far from the park entrance, and follows Mickeys Creek to where it is joined by Warrumbah Creek. Both Mickey and Warrumbah Creek gorges are well worth exploring. We walked along one fork of this track and then explored the other on our return journey. In parts of Warrumbah Gorge, you can stretch your arms and touch both walls of the Gorge.
It’s a relatively easy walk into these two gorges and very pleasant on a hot afternoon. The sunlight only reaches the floor of these gorges for a very short period each day, and they have a micro-climate all of their own. Look out for orchids on the rocks.
