Driving from Injune to Rolleston in Queesland involves a quite a lot of climbing up hills over the ranges - our GPS said we had gone from 180 metres above sea level in Roma to 586 metres above sea level. Therefore petrol consumption went up a bit because we were towing a caravan.
Headed into Rolleston for Lunch – it is just off the intersection of the Carnarvon Highway and Dawson Highway - a very pleasant park with shaded picnic tables, good toilets and a children's playground. This is Beazley Park and can be found on the corner of Meteor Street and Dawson Highway - the boundary rider's hut from 'Purbook' has been moved to this park as a memorial to the area's pioneers. A dump point is conveniently located at the edge of the park.
The small service station had drive through diesel pumps down the side for trucks (and of course cars towing vans). The small caravan park in Rolleston looked neat and tidy.
Rolleston is at the northern turn-off for Carnarvon National Park which contains Carnarvon Gorge, lush tropical ferns, palms, Aboriginal rock paintings and carvings as well as spectacular sandstone cliffs.
