We decided to stay and extra day in Port Douglas and headed to Mossman Gorge Centre for a visit. They have a very large visitor car parking area which also caters for buses, motor homes and caravans. The Centre itself consists of Mayi Café and Restaurant (great coffee), Shop and art gallery, ticket sales counter as well as a National Parks Office.
A shuttle bus operates from the centre to the gorge and tickets were $9.10 per adult for a return trip (this return ticket allows multiple trips on the day of purchase). The bus departs every 15 minutes and ours was operated by a lovely indigenous man who was happy to talk about the area and even went out of his way to try and show us a lizard in one of the nearby trees.
This is a great day out and a swim in the gorge is very refreshing after walking through the beautiful rainforest. The Mossman Gorge Centre is open from 8 am to 6 pm seven days a week (excluding Christmas day). Highly recommended.
