During our stay in Port Douglas we took a short drive to explore Mossman Gorge which is a beautiful spot in Tropical North Queensland. A shuttle bus will transfer you (small fee) from the Mossman Gorge Centre to the Gorge itself. A short walk along the boardwalk to a swimming hole which was very popular with the children. The boardwalk is wheelchair friendly but there are several steps leading down to the swimming hole itself.
A walking trail from the boardwalk leads to Rex Creek Suspension Bridge which you will need to cross to access the Rainforest Circuit Track. This track is clearly marked through the rainforest and well worth the effort – very popular with tourists with information signs along the way. There are several guided walks through the rainforest at Mossman Gorge conducted by local indigenous guides who give visitors a great insight into the significance of this area and show how to find bush tucker.
Keep a lookout on you way around as you never know what you might see in the undergrowth and creeks of the rainforest - we saw a black water snake (under a small bridge) and a Ulysses butterfly (bright blue and fluttering around near the water).
