Wandai is a small town in Queensland about 30 kilometres north of Kingaroy along the Bunya Highway. We stopped at Wandai for morning tea and a quick trip to the Visitor Information Centre. This is a large timber cutting area and the Visitor Information Centre has a great range of wooden products – bowls, pens etc. I purchased a beautiful wooden bowl for my daughter and some drop earrings made from timber - very reasonable and supporting local craftsmen.
After viewing the products in the VIC we were keen to look at the Wandai Woodcrafters' Workshop, found in woodworking shed next to the VIC. You can go in and watch the craftsmen and women at work turning the wood. The timber is local and there is a great display of the various types of timber found in the local region.
This is a lovely little town with a small caravan park, pub, RSL, Baker, Post Office, petrol station etc.
