While staying in Mount Isa we decided to head out to Lake Julius for the day.  Lake Julius was formed after the construction of the Julius Dam in 1976 - capturing the waters of the Leichhardt River and Paroo Creek. This is a huge body of water which is popular for fishing and boating.  

Travelling along the Barkley Highway towards Cloncurry is the best part of this trip before turning onto the unsealed road that leads to the lake - a 4WD is advised for this section. The trip is worth it as the scenery is quite stunning along the unsealed road and we stopped several times for photos.
