While staying in Mount Isa we headed out of town to look at Lake Moondarra - about 20 kilometres from the city centre (sealed all the way). This is a beautiful spot with lovely picnic areas, large shady trees and barbeques available free of charge. The lake is a popular place for boating and swimming and of course it is well stocked with Barramundi for a spot of fishing - you do not need a permit to fish but there are catch limits.
Lake Moondarra was only about 40% full during our visit but the scenery was still spectacular. A walk along the dam wall gave us plenty of great photos. Will definitely visit this spot again and spend more time looking around.
