We have stayed in Mount Isa on several occasions and find this an interesting, friendly outback country town. We were a little surprised to see how close the mine is to town but you soon get used to The Stack. Plenty to see and do in town, we even managed to co-ordinate one of our visits with the Mount Isa Rodeo. We purchased a pass for the weekend and saw several events - very well organised and lots of seating in the shade.
Some tips on things to see in Mount Isa:
When driving into the Northern Territory you will probably pass through Mount Isa - I suggest you spend a few days and look around.
