Mount Isa

We have stayed in Mount Isa on several occasions and find this an interesting, friendly outback country town. We were a little surprised to see how close the mine is to town but you soon get used to The Stack. Plenty to see and do in town, we even managed to co-ordinate one of our visits with the Mount Isa Rodeo. We purchased a pass for the weekend and saw several events - very well organised and lots of seating in the shade. 

Some tips on things to see in Mount Isa:

• Outback at the Isa - Visitor Information Centre, Hard Times Mine, Outback Park, Riversleigh Fossil Centre, cafe etc.  So much to see.
• Underground Hospital - built during WWII to protect patients in case of an air raid.
• Tent House - amazing how cool it was inside on a hot day.
• Lake Moondarra.
• Mount Isa School of the Air - sit in on a class.
• Grant's Pie Shop - great pies of all varieties.
• Mount Isa  Irish Club - great meals, service, Gym and courtesy bus.

When driving into the Northern Territory you will probably pass through Mount Isa - I suggest you spend a few days and look around.
