Grassy Hill Lookout is in the middle of Cooktown and offers great views of the Endeavour River, coastline and surrounding countryside. A lighthouse standing on the top of Grassy Hill has helped guide ships across the difficult channels of the reef.
It was very windy when we visited Cooktown and at Grassy Hill Lookout we were nearly blown off the top of the hill. The views are quite spectacular but unfortunately the rain heading towards Cooktown reduced our visibility. I think it is definitely worth heading up to Grassy Hill Lookout to fully understand the difficulty Captain Cook had when stopping off to repair The Endeavour all those years ago.
