Wondai is a small town on the Bunya Highway just north of Kingaroy in Queensland. This is a large timber cutting area and the visitor information centre has a great range of wooden products – bowls, pens etc. I purchased a beautiful bowl for my daughter and some timber earrings - very reasonable. The Wondai Visitor Information Centre forms a part of the South Burnett Region Timber Industry Museum Complex. Listed as one of the top 10 things to see and do on Australia's Country Way (Tamworth to Rockhampton) - I totally agree it was great.
This Centre / Timber Museum s open seven days 9.00 am to 4.00 pm (closed Good Friday, ANZAC morning, Christmas and Boxing Days)
The woodworking shed is next door and you can go in (free entry) and watch the craftsmen and women at work turning the wood. The timber is local and there is a great display of all the timber found in the area.
