Rockhampton is a city and local government area in Queensland, Australia. The city lies on the Fitzroy River, approximately 45 kilometres (28 mi) from the river mouth, and some 600 kilometres (370 mi) north of the state capital, Brisbane. Rockhampton is a large city in Queensland on the Tropic of Capricorn and is at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. It is situated on the Bruce Highway about 635 kilometres north of Brisbane and 330 kilometres south of Mackay. We stopped overnight in Rockhampton on our caravan adventure through Queensland. This city has a lot to offer and we spend some more time exploring the area during our next caravan adventure.
There are several historical building around town and a number of bull statues - Rockhampton is considered to be the beef capital of Australia. Other things to see in the area are:
Rockhampton seems to be a large commercial centre with very busy main streets. We left early in the morning in order to get our caravan across the busy highway outside the Southside Holiday Village.
