While travelling down the coast of Queensland on a caravan trip we called into the Discovery Parks Rockhampton (formerly BIG4 Discovery Park, Rockhampton) to spend at night on one of their powered sites. This park is easy to access from a side road running parallel to the Bruce Highway, North Rockhampton.
Upon checking in we were greeted by Emily who is the daughter of the Managers. She is the perfect person to have at the front counter with her warm welcome, friendly service and knowledge of the area. The Park is located near a commercial area of Rockhampton, not far from surrounding attractions like the Botanic Gardens, Rockhampton Zoo, Great Keppel Island (Capricorn Coast) and the lookout on Mount Archer providing panoramic views.
There are a large range of cabins from Studio Units to Deluxe Spa Apartments which are very popular with visiting groups - in fact they are regulargly booked out for meetings, conferences etc. They tell me there are about 90 various accommodation choices as well as powered and un-powered caravan and camping sites.
The powered site we were allocated was very large with yellow cement strips to park the van on beside a large cement slab. The site provided us with heaps of space.
The camping area was not too far from our site and the tents were erected around the edge of a sealed drive with a camp kitchen and barbeque area located in the middle. This was small but well designed and seemed to be very convenient for all campers close to the amenities.
Tropical gardens give the park a lovely feel even though there was not too much grass on sites during our stay. It had been very dry and our visit was just after the busy tourist season.
