Island Rock, as the name would suggest, is a rock formation sitting just off the shore along the West Australian coastline within Kalbarri National Park. I believe this was once part of the shoreline and has been separated from the surrounding sandstone by weathering forces of the wind and waves.
Island Rock can been seen from viewing platform just a short distance from the car park. An amazing boardwalk along the top of the cliff leads to Natural Bridge (another geological wonder). There are great facilities along the way including a sheltered viewing area made from rock, timber and steel - providing welcome shade and seating. Eco Toilets have been provided for visitors near the Natural Bridge car park.
