Yorketown is a small rural community at the southern end of the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. This is a great place to stop for morning tea when travelling from the west to east coast of the Yorke Peninsula. The Yorketown Bakehouse is a must with great food and coffee and great friendly service. As the sign says "more than just a baker" - you will also find in this building a clothes shop, sports store, electrical appliances and diving gear. Great for browsing while waiting for coffee.
Within walking distance of the Yorketown Bakery we found an old masonic hall on Edithburgh Road. This historic building is being used as a second hand shop run by the community - very neat and tidy and the best organised shop of its kind that I have seen. It was very interesting to look around as you never know when you might find a real treasure or fun gift - I think well worth a look.
Yorketown has a range of services and is very conveniently located at the intersection of roads leading to Minlaton, Edithburgh, Stansbury Road (leading to St Vincent Highway along the east coast) and Warooka Road leading to the bottom of the peninsula. The surrounding landscape is dotted with many inland salt lakes, some of which are still mined, while the farmland is full of wheat and barley crops.
