The Fresh Fish Place Factory Tour - Port Lincoln

While we were staying in Port Lincoln we joined the Fresh Fish Place Factory Tour. This was fascinating and I would highly recommend that you put this on your list of things to do while visiting this area in South Australia.

Kelly was our guide and she explained the weighing process for fishermen, scaling machines and the regulated industry within the Port. We watched as the staff opened oysters, filleted whiting and peeled prawns - labour intensive but everything is fresh. After the tour we shared a tasting plate of produce created by the Fresh Fish Place - smoked tuna, smoked oysters, as well as pickled oysters, prawns, squid, mussels and scallops. These were amazing and quite unique so I had to purchase some to take home.  

The Fresh Fish Place also prepares local produce for lunch so we indulged in a seafood basket - crumbed whiting and scallops - battered prawn and oysters - salt and pepper calamari (fabulous) - flake and some crumbed flathead - with chips and salad. Huge meal but we wanted to try a bit of everything - did not need to eat for the rest of the day. 

A great range of bottled and frozen goods are sold in the shop as well as fresh seafood. The staff are friendly and helpful and will happily explain how to cook what you buy - cookbooks area also available.
