Arkaba Hills Lookout is on the Flinders Ranges Way as you head towards Wilpena Pound from Hawker - about 22 kilometres. The views to the north are of the Arkaba Hills, with Elder Range in the background. These were apparently the inspiration for South Australia artist - Sir Hans Heysen, who loved painting the Flinders Ranges and beautiful gum trees in this area - these paintings brought him world wide recognition.
The car parking area is large enough to pull off the road safely while towing a caravan and old wooden tables and benches provide seating and/or viewing platforms. Signs at this Lookout tell of the large birds that hunt around the hills and plains - we did not see the magnificent wedge-tailed eagle during our visit to Arkaba Hills Lookout. They are beautiful birds and we really enjoy seeing them in the wild.
