The Katherine Visitor Information Centre is located in the middle of town just off the Stuart Highway - turn onto Lindsay Street or Chambers Drive to find the carpark. We were towing a caravan and were very pleased to see a large parking area alongside the Visitor Information Centre (suitable for a large number of caravans and motohomes at one time). This parking area is also very close to the shopping centre. We walked across the road to do our grocery shopping at Woolworths before heading out to the caravan park - this was really handy as I could unpack straight into the cupboards and fridge of the van.
The Katherine Visitor Information Centre is a large building displaying wonderful Aboriginal Artwork from around the area. If you want to plan your visit to Katherine before leaving home just contact the Centre and they will post out an information pack.
The Katherine Region covers about 480,000 square kilometres and is the central point of the Northern Territory and we passed through Katherine several times - heading north to Kakadu and then west to Kununurra. Of course the Visitor Information Centre has all the information you will need to explore Katherine and the surrounding area - the staff are friendly and helpful. It was very busy when we called in but they were still happy to give us plenty of time.
