Katherine Hot Springs is a great place for a warm, relaxing dip. These springs can be found just off the Victoria Highway (Riverbank Drive) and are close to town. Water pumps from deep within the earth at a mild temperature - about 32 degrees Celsius (they are not really HOT springs - but warm springs doesn't sound right).
The Katherine Town Council seem to have spent a few dollars over the years beautifying the Hot Springs and have created a lovely recreational area. The main pool has a gravel bed which helps to keeps the water crystal clear. You can see the source of the spring water via a viewing platform and then head down the walkway (or stairs) to the main pool. This main pool has wheel chair access, stainless steel rails and the walls have been formed out of rock (I guess to protect the river bank during the wet season). This is a pretty little spot shaded by pandanus palms and paperbark trees and just a short walk from the car park
There is a walking/ bike path that follows the river bed a few kilometres to the Katherine Low level Nature Reserve which is a very popular swimming spot.
