Mud Bishops picnic area can be found by heading down Mud-Bishops Point Road - turn off Old Bar Road between the airstrip and Lani's on the Beach caravan park. Next to the picnic area is a tidal lagoon attached to one of the entrances to the Manning River. Mud Bishops is a popular fishing spot which also attracts sailboarders and kite surfers to the calm waters of this large lagoon - a great place to learn.
We would often head down to Mud Bishops at lot tide to see the thousands of soldier crabs scurrying across the sand. There are a number of walking tracks around this area and it is home to a large variety of bird life - you might even see koalas or echidnas as you explore the bushland. This area is particularly picturesque during spring when the wildflowers come out.
If you paddle across the lagoon you can access Old Bar Beach to take a dip in the ocean and enjoy the waves - just be aware of where you are walking as these sand dunes become nesting areas for the Little Tern at certain times of the year. Mud Bishops is a great place to explore - a safe swimming spot, plenty of shade and easy parking.
