Mud Bishops Park can be found at the end of a dirt track between Old Bar air strip and the Old Bar Caravan Park (Lani's on the Beach). Along the edge of the road you will find a lovely tidal lagoon known to the locals as Mud Bishops Flat. We have spent many hours at this beautiful spot sail-boarding. SUPing and admiring the thousands of soldier crabs appearing at low tide. In fact my son learnt kite-surfing at Mud Bishops Flat on the large expanse of relatively shallow water.
Sand dunes lay between Mud Bishops Flat and and the ocean which is a lovely area to explore. This is a breeding area for the endangered shorebird - the Little Tern who nest in the area from August to April. Several other species of migratory birds can also be found in this estuary area and signs are posted asking visitors to be aware of these precious creatures. Please be careful as the eggs are small and crush easily.
There is a walking track behind Old Bar air strip, between Old Bar village and Mud Bishops Park - home to many bird species, as well wallabies, koalas, echidnas and wildflowers during spring.
This is a really lovely part of the NSW coastline and highly recommended when visiting the small holiday village of Old Bar (only about 20 minutes travel from the Pacific Highway near Taree).
