Old Bar is a lovely little coastal village about twelve kilometres east of the Taree south roundabout on the Pacific Highway. This is a quiet spot to spend a relaxing holiday with a nice long beach (great for morning walks), plenty of fishing opportunities, and close to a couple of well-known surfing and kiteboarding locations - Wallaby Point and Salt Water.
Old Bar Beach is becoming increasingly well known for the Festival held on the October long weekend that attracts hundreds of Kombi van enthusiasts to the area - in fact the Old Bar Beach Festival holds the Australian record for the most Kombi/Transporter’s gathered in one area at one time. They attempt to break this record at each festival on the Sunday of that weekend. Owners of Kombi vans are encouraged to come along and bring spare parts (for the annual swap meet) and to join the 'Cruise" - a drive through several small towns in the area and then back to Old Bar.
Old Bar has grown over the years and now has a supermarket, chemist, several cafes, a very nice Thai restaurant, takeaway shops, bottle shop, great baker etc. The Old Bar Bowling Club serves very good meals at reasonable prices and provides a courtesy bus to take you to and from your accommodation.
