Narrabri Lake has been created behind the showground and accessed via Buri Street (which is also the way you travel when visiting the CSIRO Australia Telescope). It was transformed from swamp land by volunteers who have created a recreational area for swimmers, canoeists, windsurfers and those wishing to try SUPing.
The lake is large with beach accesses along the foreshore as well as a range of picnic tables, electric and wood barbeques and children's play equipment. There is a walking/cycling path running around the lake - unfortunately we did not have time to cycle around but hopefully during our next visit.
There are plenty of parking spaces and the islands on the lake attract local and migrating birds. You can find a Narrabri bird brochure at the Visitor Information Centre to help identify the various species.
