Eyre Hwy

Description

The Eyre Highway is a highway linking Western Australia and South Australia via the Nullarbor Plain. Signed as National Highway 1~/A1, it forms part of Highway 1 and the Australian National Highway network linking Perth and Adelaide. It was named after explorer Edward John Eyre, who was the first to cross the Nullarbor by land.

They Eyre Highway is the main road across the Nullarbor and is surprisingly busy. We found this trip really interesting as the vegetation continually changes - I guess depending on the soil type and rainfall. We were expecting to find this drive boring but it was actually the opposite with lots of stops along the way to look at the Great Australian Bight. Plenty of traffic along this highway and you do not have to wait long for help if you need to stop for any reason. There are a number of service stations with overnight accommodation - caravan, camping or motel rooms.
