Thunder Bay and the Thunder Bay Blowholes can be found on the western side of Edel Land National Park (proposed). This is part of Shark Bay and can only we accessed by 4WD vehicles. The tracks within the National Park are very sandy and corrugated - you are told to reduce tyre pressure to 20 psi.
We called in to look at the Thunder Bay Blowholes on our return journey from Steep Point - the most westerly point of the Australian Mainland. The Blowholes were not pumping as there was not enough swell but you could hear the air whoosh through - I guess this is why they are called the Breathing Cliffs. One hole was the size of a golf ball and we only noticed it because of the sound of air being forced through this tiny opening by the waves below. You are warned to be careful during heavy seas as the water can shoot up to 20 metres in the air.
