While staying at the lovely Bridgewater Public Caravan Park at Bridgewater on Loddon in Victoria, we took a lovely walk along the river to the local pub for dinner. The Bridgewater Hotel (Loddon Bridge Hotel) is an Art Deco Pub on the banks of the Loddon River and situated on the main road through town - the Calder Highway.
Firstly we decided to try Jimmy Wong’s homemade dim sims - steamed of course and these are great. The owners drive down to Jimmy Wong’s each week to pick up a fresh supply of these delicious dim sims. We also had mustard bread which consisted of a whole small cob loaf spread with mustard butter and crisped in the oven - delicious. We had Steak with veges and mash and the steak was cooked perfectly with lots of fresh veges – yum. The other meal was Hawaiian topped chicken schnitzel (it was schnitzel night at the hotel) with chips and salad. Great Chips and beautiful schnitzel with lovely salad. We enjoyed a lovely meal in the dining room. All this with a lovely local chardonnay from Water Wheel Wineries (of course we called into the winery the next day).
We enjoyed a lovely chat with the owner, Amanda, who has recently purchased the hotel with her husband and they are passionate about cooking great meals. They are working hard to build up the business and have done a great job on the large covered beer garden at the rear of the building overlooking the river – very nice.
The Dining room has lots of tables with a fire in the centre – would be beautiful and cosy during winter. Breakfast is served on Sunday mornings and Amanda is happy to organise special functions with great menus.
I highly recommend a meal at this friendly hotel when next you visit Bridgewater On Loddon.
