Benalla Visitor Information Centre is housed in a lovely old building on the foreshore of Lake Benalla, alongside the Costume and Pioneer Museum. The Museum has an excellent display of Ned Kelly memorabilia, as well as war time items of Weary Dunlop (who was born in Benalla). The Building also houses the Creators Gallery with a range of locally produced crafts and gifts, including textiles, woodcraft, pottery, and hand made cards. They have a range of souvenirs and we found the staff to very helpful with lots of hints on what to see in town. This is a lovely little town in Victoria with lots to see and do.
The Benalla Visitor Information Centre is a great place to access the cycling/walking path around the lake - check out the Gaudi inspired Ceramic Mural (very interesting and looks better when viewed from the lake side). Remember to check out the "street art" created on many buildings in town - some of these paintings are amazing and a must see when in Benalla - the Visitor Information Centre can give you information on the best vantage points to view these truly brilliant pictures.
