Flinders Ranges Visitor Information Centre is housed in the old Quorn Railway Station - where the Pichi Richi railway runs. This is the last remaining section of the original 'Old Ghan' railway line and you can ride on this heritage train from Port Augusta to Quorn. The Information Centre has copies of the timetable and a small Ghan museum is located within the Station Building.
There are toilets alongside the Visitor Information Centre and plenty of parking out the front when towing a caravan. We left our van parked outside and walked to the main street to visit the Quandong Cafe for coffee and Quandong (a native plum) cheesecake. Over the course of our visit to the area we ate at the three cafes in the main street - Quandong Cafe, Quorn Cafe (savoury scones - yum), and Emily's Bistro (housed in an old Emporium where we had homemade pies - delicious). All three are slightly different but offer friendly country hospitality and great food at reasonable prices.
We found the staff at the Visitor Information Centre to be very helpful giving us lots of information on where to stay, what to see and places to eat. They have a really good range of books and souvenirs and some lovely Alpaca scarves made by a local. Definitely worth stopping in Quorn on your way to the Flinders Ranges
