During our stay at Mission Beach in northern Queensland we headed to South Mission Beach to visit the Beachcomber Coconut Holiday Park, a BIG4 Park on the beach. Lisa (one of the owners) was very welcoming and allowed us to photograph two cabins as soon as they were cleaned (she had people waiting to book in for the weekend). It was busy with a surf carnival but she was happy to give us plenty of time to look around.
This is a lovely looking park with beautiful tropical gardens and plenty of shade. The new owners had recently taken over this BIG4 and were busy working to improve facilities and build more cabins. They have a great resort-style pool with plenty of room for the kids to play - water slide and splash area, Balinese huts and lots of shade.
I was particularly impressed by the camp kitchen which is set in a lovely shady spot overlooking tropical gardens, and I must say the amenities were very clean. Some of the beachfront cabins needs a bit of TLC and they are working on this. Other cabins in the park are great with a variety of options - all with car parking space. The caravan sites are well maintained and mostly separated by gardens for privacy.
Some features of this beautiful park are:
I understand that cassowaries can often be seen wandering through the park - please do not feed them, just stand back and admire these amazing birds and check out the colours on their head and neck. No pets allowed as they say Cassowaries and pets don't mix.
The entrance to Beachcomber Coconut Holiday Park has a lovely cafe/restaurant (BYO and open 7 days) with plenty of seating in the shade overlooking the ocean. Reception staff were friendly and welcoming and we would not hesitate to stay here on our next trip to Mission Beach.
