Mackay Marina

While staying in Mackay, north Queensland we headed out to the Marina to take a look around. This is a world-class facility with a large number of luxury boats  plus a maintenance berth for repairs.  It was a very windy day and we found it difficult to walk along the break wall to take a closer look - of course you can drive out but the strong wind made it difficult to enjoy the spectacular scenery.  

We decided to head back to safety and lunch at the Great Northern Sports Club overlooking the harbour. There are plenty of car parking spaces behind the club and we enjoyed a lovely lunch with a beer out of the wind.

This is thriving commercial precinct with shops, bars and restaurants as well as the luxury Clarion Hotel Mackay Marina. Activities such as game fishing, sailing and island tours are available from the Marina which sits next to Sandy Harbour Beach. The Marina is also home to the Pine Islet Lighthouse, one of the only working kerosene lighthouses left in the world.
