The Canberra Yacht Club was founded in 1959 so that people from the ACT and surrounding regions could enjoy sailing. The Club has organised racing on Lake Burley Griffin on a Sunday, and during the warmer months twilight sailing on a Wednesday evening. They also offer training and hire boats are available for people with some sailing ability. The Club has a well stocked boat shop to help with rigging, rope, clothing and paint - open 7 days during summer. The Canberra Yacht Club is located in Lotus Bay, Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra with easy access to this beautiful waterway. Members have access storage for dinghies and trailable yachts - showers, toilets and change rooms are on site.
The Southern Cross Club Bar and Restaurant is located in the same grounds as the Canberra Yacht Club and this is very popular for a meal and drink after a day on the water. Non sailors flock to the Southern Cross Club to enjoy a meal overlooking Lake Burley Griffin or to enjoy take-away fish and chips on the large grassed area between the club and the water.
This is a beautiful spot in Canberra and easy to access on a pushbike or by car - great on a hot summer afternoon.
