The Guilderton Visitor Centre is operated by a sub-committee of the Guilderton Community Association, made up entirely of volunteers. Guilderton is a small town on the coast of West Australia - between Jurien Bay and Perth. The Centre is open from 9 am to 12 pm on weekends, public holidays and during school holidays. The small blue building of the Visitor Centre can be found at the end of the car park near the entrance to Guilderton Caravan Park. There is a Children's playground alongside the building, public toilets in the park and a cafe across the road.
We arrived outside opening hours (on a week day) and found maps displayed on the side of the building showing information about walking trails, fishing and businesses in town. We were able to collect some brochures from the reception area of the caravan park.
Guilderton is only about one hours drive north of Perth and is a very popular holiday destination with a range of water sports - swimming, canoeing, surfing, fishing or just cruising up the Moore River. This is a pristine estuary system and the locals want to keep it that way - there is a 5 knot speed limit on all parts of the river.
Guilderton is a nature based tourist asset, which lies approximately 100 kms north of Perth. Just 8km off Indian Ocean Drive at the mouth of the Moore River it makes Guilderton a perfect day trip from Perth. The town is situated on the last remaining river estuary on the Swan Coastal Plain unspoiled by development. The hundred and fifty permanent and semi-permanent residents strive to maintain the near pristine environment at its best for current and future generations to enjoy. The Guilderton Visitor Centre is operated by a sub-committee of the Guilderton Community Association, made up entirely by volunteers. It is situated on the Guilderton Foreshore in Edward Street next to the Caravan Park, and open 9.00am to 12.00pm weekends, public holidays and school holidays.
It displays maps, tourist brochures and advertisements for local businesses, along with all the latest fishing, boating and shire publications. It also sells locally made jams and pickles, honey and oil and a great selection of art, gifts and souvenirs.
